The Weekend Scoop

The Weekend Scoop is posted every week. I will post all the music events that are happening in the Downtown South Bend area on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

There are always so many events that are all occurring at the same time, it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of what is happening and where is is happening.Well I hope to make things a lot simpler for you! I want to be able to spread the news of different music events so readers have an opportunity to go to a place they have never been before, or listen to a band they have never heard of before.

My pick of the week goes to The Rutabega with special guests MPL STV, Jake Simmons & TLG, and Infinite Buffalo. I have seen the Rutabega play numerous times, the most memorable being at Sounds By South Bend in 2014. It was incredible. The Rutabega classifies themselves as "carp-rock" and is a 2-peice from South Bend. I love the sound that Garth and Josh are able to make and share with the audience; and they are a blast to see live. Infinite Buffalo will also be joining them, a 2-piece group that is like a jam-band dream. This is a show you do not want to miss! It will be at McCormick's Coney Island located at 125 N. Michigan St. The link to the event is listed below.

More Than Just a Melody

Music is something that has the ability to transform and to connect people all over the world. It is something that everyone can relate to in their own way and can helps other to better identify themselves and others. So why not keep the music going? I find that through music I have the ability to see things in a new light, which is important for communication and keeping an open mind.

This is why local music is so important. We need to try to keep the music alive by supporting local musicians and encourage them to share their stories with the world. By supporting local artists, we have the ability to encourage and to inspire the storytellers, songwriters, and creative minds that we to for entertainment. As an audience and a participant we have  a bigger role than we realize. We are not simply observing, we are participating and interacting with the performance. Who knows, maybe some day the kid down the street practicing in his garage may be playing a sold out show at Madison Square Garden. Or we will hear our friend's song on the radio while driving to work. We will never find out unless we create a safe and welcoming place for musicians to share their stories with us.

Welcome!

Thanks for checking out my blog All About Music: South Bend.

The past three years the local music scene has been on a rise with more and more artists becoming visible and sharing their music. The amount of talent that is resting in this community is becoming bigger and greater every day.

Through this blog, my goal is to write about local events in the South Bend and Mishawaka areas. I want to share with my readers different music events and artists that are in town. The more people we can make aware of the rising music scene the better and bigger.

So how do I fit into all of this? For the past three years I have been an organizer of Seitz and Sounds. It is a local concert series in Downtown South Bend. Every Thursday night in the months of June, July, and August, we have live music and dancing from 6:00pm-10:00pm. Through this experience, I have been able to see so many different artists and learn about who they are and what their music represents. I want to be able to share that with other people as well.

I hope I have excited you enough to come back as I am updating this page. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them on the page, or send me an email at kellydietz01@gmail.com.
